5 Things to Remember About Flying

Turbulence, small beverages, and even smaller toilets are all to be expected when you are flying. There are also many things that should be kept in mind about flying.

Five things to remember about flying:

  1. Your Body expands at high altitudes. Since your body expands while you are high in the air be sure to fasten your seatbelt loosely at first and always wear loose fitting clothes. If you wear loose fitting layers you will be most comfortable on an aircraft. The cabin temperature is constantly changes so wearing a loose t-shirt under a sweater is a must. You will be able to freely move around in your seat and in your skin without having to constantly blow air into your face or shift position to remain comfortable.
  2. Remember that eating on a long flight is a good idea and even more important is staying fully hydrated. Although bringing food on a flight saves money the pressurized cabin strongly affects your gastrointestinal system. Avoid gas-producing foods like: apples, apricots, cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower.
  3. Never fall asleep before you take off. If you nod off while on the runway, where there is less oxygen in the cabin, you could suffer from ear damage. Your ear tubs might tighten and make in hard to pop your ears before you get out of the plane.
  4. Some of the unpleasant side effects of flying can be reduced by drinking plenty of water. On a plane you need to consume up to eight ounces of water every hour, you can lose up to this much simply through breathing and through your skin in the low humidity environment of an airport cabin. Staying hydrated will keep you feeling as well as possible when you reach your destination.
  5. Moving around the cabin, especially on long haul flights is important. The circulation of blood, especially in the veins of your extremities is assisted by motion, moving, even something as simple as wiggling your toes or stretching your legs will help to lower any risk of deep vein thrombosis or other circulatory disorders associated with flying.

So whether you are taking a one hour trip or a six hour journey be sure to remember these five things about air travel. Aircraft are the safest way to travel but be sure and take extra care to make sure your next trip is as comfortable as possible.
